Loved Squid Game? Wanna dive into the ever-growing K-drama land?
At this point, everybody and their moms know about Squid Game, but Korean dramas, most commonly known as K-dramas, are more than gruesome killer games and tracksuits. And yeah, more than Boys Over Flowers and Lee Min-ho.
We are familiar with Bollywood movies, and K-dramas have something common with them; they use human emotions as a binding factor between the drama and the viewer. That's why we can't get enough of them, just like Bollywood movies. Sometimes they are hilarious; sometimes they are sad; sometimes you work your brains out to guess who's the serial killer is; sometimes you swoon so hard and wish you had a boyfriend to cuddle up to; sometimes you want to throw the remote at your TV and scream bloody murder; sometimes you cry so hard you can't even see the screen properly; sometimes the suspense is too much your finger nails are all gone; sometimes you wanna go and hug your mom; sometimes the fight scene is so intense, your jaw had dropped to the floor; any mood, any emotion, you name it, they got you covered. There's no flashy dance numbers like Bollywood, but they've got very beautiful OSTs, some of them are sung by your favorites *cough*V*cough*.
Not just emotions and great music, they also showcase their beautiful culture, fashion, food (now that's the best part!), picturesque landscapes, smartphones (no pun intended - they own Samsung) and most importantly, their actors and their dazzling visuals (okay ain't that the best part? Heck yeah!!!). Mostly they span around 8 to 20 episodes, most commonly 16 episodes, and not like English TV serials, they usually have only one season (Don't have to wait 2 years to watch your favorite character getting murdered).
So as their very own Oscar award winning director Bong Joon-ho said "Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films", not just gushing over how friggin' amazing Squid Game is, or how annoying that tall, curly haired fellow looks like (hello entire male population), give it an actual try. And here's some recommendations for your weekend binge. Enjoy!- Sweet Home
