Not your typical family movie
Who doesn’t love movies? Well, my mom doesn’t but movies have a special place in our hearts. When it comes to movies, everybody has their preference, favorite genres, actors, and the list goes on. Well for me, I’m a romantic girl, so my favorites are rom-coms, but generally, I love to watch anything except a horror (a sacarady cat here T_T). I don’t have a single favorite movie, but there are special ones that touched my heart and left some huge impressions. Gifted is one of that movies.
Starring Chris Evans (Yes! Our beloved Cap), Mckenna Grace,
Lindsay Duncan, Jenny Slate, and Octavia Spencer, the plot follows an
intellectually gifted seven-year-old who becomes the subject of a custody
battle between her maternal uncle and maternal grandmother. This 2017 American
drama film was directed by Marc Webb and written by Tom Flynn.
Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy - his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) in a coastal town in Florida. Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary's landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary's teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.
Before you think that there's nothing special, this sounds like the same ole American family movie, the main reason I love this is the precious relationship between our sweet Mary and her beloved uncle. I'm not ashamed to say that every time I watch this, they make me cry. Ahhh I love them so much!
